Event Details

PDR is a world leading research, design and innovation organisation.

We have a unique approach and have been helping companies both large and small from around the world to discover, design and develop world beating products and experiences for over 16 years.

As a Knowledge Transfer Centre PDR currently delivers knowledge transfer projects directly to Welsh Industry across three areas of expertise.

This event is an introduction to these programmes and an opportunity to learn how your business could benefit from the experience, skills and technology

within PDR. All of the KTC projects are funded by the Welsh Government and advisors will be on hand to discuss options available to you and your business.

The event will include short, sharp presentations from PDR and feature presentations from companies that we have worked with over the past year.

Places are free but must be booked in advance.

PATIENT-SPECIFIC DESIGN
There is increasing demand for such developments from patients and health services; however, this has not been possible with traditional  manufacturing processes because of the costs involved.

In order to meet this need our centre acts as a knowledge centre for advanced digital and additive manufacturing technologies which provide a way of developing products for this market.

Confirmed Speakers:

- Dr Paul Smith, Cardiff School of Sports: 'The Science and art of tailoring adaptive sports equipment: examples from recreational and competitive Handcycling'

- Peter Evans, Morriston Hospital: 'How new technologies are being used by clinicians to improve patient outcomes'

- Ed Littlewood, Renishaw Plc.

- Peter Dorrington, Patient Specific Project Lead at PDR

SERVICE DESIGN
Service innovation is becoming increasingly important as businesses struggle to compete on cost and quality alone.

Service is often the key difference between one company and another, but how do you actually achieve service innovation? Design Wales deliver the service design programme that companies to use the latest design-led approaches when developing new services. www.testyourservice.co.uk

Confirmed Speakers:

- Phil Morgan, Aggrelek: 'How a Welsh SME moved from products to service and saw their bottom line grow'

USER CENTERED DESIGN
By placing the user at the heart of product design, development risk can be reduced as the end design more accurately reflects user needs.

At PDR we utilise capabilities in rapid and interactive prototyping together with facilities for structured user observation and expertise in product interaction analysis to shape the development of products.

- Dr Andrew Walters: 'How companies are using UCD to increase the success of new products and services'
